Honestly, writing a college essay is fun. In fact, it’s all about you. Your goals, passions, interests, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics are the most important elements.

Strong college essays are creative and persuasive. Your purpose is to convince admissions officers that you are prepared to succeed.

To start forming ideas that will “wow” your future readers, follow these simple steps.

First, consider your passions and how they’ve come about. Think about the things you do that make you feel most alive, and the people, places, and ideas that inspire you most. Reflect on past experiences that have influenced your interests.

Next, examine your skills and characteristics. Consider how your past experiences have challenged you. Reflect on the problems you’ve solved and the ways you’ve become better.

Finally, scrutinize your college and career goals. Perhaps you dream about embarking on a certain career path. Or, maybe it’s a subject that interests you most. Either way, consider who you want to be in the future.

Keep these key pointers in mind, no matter how close or how far you are from beginning your postsecondary journey.
